The best places to elope in Yosemite
Taft Point
A 1.1-mile walk from Glacier Point Road ends at fissured granite and an unfenced edge above the entire valley, with El Capitan across the void. The park's most requested ceremony site for good reason. We shoot it at sunset and stage the ceremony back from the lip, then bring you forward for portraits.
Glacier Point
The grand balcony: Half Dome, Nevada and Vernal Falls, and the high country rolling east. Paved and accessible, which makes it the pick when grandparents are coming. The road typically opens late May and closes with the first big snow in November.
Tunnel View
The postcard: El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall and Half Dome stacked in one frame. It is steps from parking and never empty, so we use it at first light or as a short portrait stop rather than a ceremony site, and it earns its place every single time.
Valley meadows
Cook's Meadow and El Capitan Meadow put you under 3,000-foot walls with cottonwoods and the Merced River for foregrounds. Fog mornings here in autumn and winter are the quiet, intimate counterpoint to the rim viewpoints.
Cathedral Beach & the Merced River
River bends with straight-up views of El Capitan, soft light bouncing off granite, and space to be alone. Late summer's low water opens gravel bars that make first-look locations nobody else thinks to use.
Tuolumne Meadows & Tioga Road
The high country at 8,600 feet: granite domes, the Tuolumne River and lodgepole forest, open roughly June through October. When summer crowds pack the valley, we take couples up here and trade icons for solitude.

Getting legally married in Yosemite
Every Yosemite wedding, however small, needs a National Park Service special use permit: a $150 non-refundable application fee, filed more than 21 days before your date and up to one year ahead, which is when the popular sites and Saturdays go. Ceremonies are limited to the park's approved location list, capped at two hours, and come with sensible rules: no amplified music, no decorations beyond handheld bouquets, no drones, and the site stays open to other visitors. Larger groups can trigger monitoring fees, but a permit for two people plus a photographer is routine when filed early. We complete and track the application as part of planning.
The marriage licence is the easy half. California licences are issued same-day by any county clerk, roughly $60 to $115 depending on the county, with no residency requirement or waiting period, and they are valid for 90 days anywhere in the state. A public licence requires an officiant and at least one witness; a confidential licence, issued to couples who attest they live together, needs no witness at all. Many couples collect theirs from Mariposa County on the drive in. California does not allow self-solemnization, so we connect you with officiants who hike.

May and June for waterfalls at full power, September and October for gold light and thinner crowds, our usual recommendation. Glacier Point Road runs roughly late May to November, so rim sites are seasonal. Winter offers a snowy, quiet valley, and mid-February's light on Horsetail Fall is its own event.
