The best places to elope in The Amalfi Coast
Ravello & Villa Cimbrone
The quiet aristocrat of the coast. Villa Cimbrone's Terrace of Infinity lines marble busts along a balustrade with 350 metres of air below, and the gardens open early enough for near-private portraits. Ravello's civil hall also hosts some of Italy's most beautiful legal ceremonies.
Positano, at dawn
The famous stacked village earns every photograph, before 8 a.m. We shoot the lanes and the Spiaggia Grande at first light, then leave as the day-trippers arrive and view it again from the water.
The Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei)
A ridgeline trail from Bomerano to Nocelle, roughly 7 kilometres of cliff-edge walking 500 metres above the sea. At sunrise it is quiet, cool and absurdly cinematic. Sturdy shoes, dress in the pack, changed at the viewpoint.
Fiordo di Furore
A slot fjord where a stone bridge spans a hidden beach between cliffs. Small, strange and graphic, it works best in the flat light of early morning or as a boat stop from the water side.
Atrani
The coast's smallest village, one bay east of Amalfi and skipped by the crowds heading to its neighbour. Arched lanes, a piazza the size of a living room, and locals who will toast you. Our favourite dinner finish.
Capri, by boat
On two-day itineraries we cross to Capri: the Faraglioni sea stacks, the Punta Carena lighthouse, and a swim in water the colour of bottle glass. Going by private boat means the island's ferry crowds never touch your day.

The paperwork
Getting legally married in The Amalfi Coast
Italy allows foreign couples to marry in civil ceremonies, but the paperwork is real. Most nationalities need a Nulla Osta (certificate of no impediment) from their consulate; US citizens instead need an Atto Notorio sworn before witnesses plus a consular declaration. Documents must be translated, some legalised, and the civil ceremony must take place in a venue authorised by the comune, a town hall or licensed garden, not a clifftop of your choosing. Honestly, most of our Amalfi couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. Can foreigners legally get married on the Amalfi Coast?
Yes, via a civil ceremony at an authorised venue such as Ravello's or Positano's town hall. You need a Nulla Osta or, for Americans, an Atto Notorio, plus translated documents. Because ceremonies are venue-restricted and paperwork takes months, many couples sign at home and hold a symbolic ceremony anywhere on the coast.
When should we elope on the Amalfi Coast?
Late April to early June or September into October. You get 18 to 27°C, open trails, swimmable sea and manageable roads. July and August work only with a dawn-heavy timeline and a boat; winter is quiet and pretty but many hotels and restaurants close November to March.
Is the Path of the Gods hard?
It is a real trail, roughly 7 kilometres with uneven stone and 500-metre dropoffs beside the path, but no scrambling. We start from Bomerano, walk the scenic first section at sunrise, and carry your dress. Couples of average fitness do it comfortably in trail shoes.
How much does an Amalfi Coast elopement cost?

Should we add Capri?
If you have two days, yes, and by private boat rather than ferry. The crossing from Positano takes about 50 minutes, you circle the Faraglioni and the grottoes without queueing, and you are back on the coast for golden hour. As a single-day trip from a one-day package it is too tight.
