Queenstown to Glenorchy is 45 minutes. Queenstown to Wanaka is just over an hour over the Crown Range. Milford Sound is a big day trip or a short flight. You never burn a whole day repositioning.

Roys Peak
The ridgeline photo everyone has seen, and it still deserves the fame. It is a 5 to 6 hour return hike with 1,200 metres of climbing, so we either start pre-dawn to beat the queue at the viewpoint or skip the sweat entirely and fly you up by helicopter.
Milford Sound & Fiordland
Mitre Peak rising straight from dark water, waterfalls that switch on with the rain. Ceremonies work from the foreshore, from a private cruise, or via heli to a fiord-top landing site. Rain here is not a plan B problem, it is when the place looks its best.
Glenorchy & Paradise
The braided Dart River, moody beech forest and the mountains that stood in for Middle-earth. Forty-five minutes from Queenstown and reliably quieter than anywhere in Wanaka. Our pick for couples who want valleys rather than summits.
Coromandel Peak, Mt Roy
The classic Wanaka heli landing: a rock outcrop high above the lake with Mt Aspiring on the horizon. Ten minutes' flight from town, ceremony and portraits done inside an hour of landings. The most booked heli site in our New Zealand work.
The Remarkables & Cecil Peak
Queenstown's jagged skyline from the inside. Heli landings on Cecil Peak look back over Lake Wakatipu and the whole town glowing below, which makes it the go-to for sunset flights.

The paperwork
Getting legally married in New Zealand
New Zealand makes legal marriage straightforward for visitors. You apply online to Births, Deaths and Marriages for a marriage licence, NZ$158, at least three working days before the ceremony, though we suggest lodging it about a month out so nothing is rushed. There is no residency or citizenship requirement, the licence is valid for three months, and it names your ceremony location plus a backup, so we always list a weather alternative. The ceremony itself must be performed by a registered celebrant, and the Queenstown and Wanaka celebrants we work with will hike, fly and stand in wind to marry you.
Because the local paperwork is this easy, most of our New Zealand couples marry legally in-country rather than signing at home first. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2013 and your New Zealand certificate is recognised internationally. When is the best time to elope in New Zealand?
March to May is our honest answer: autumn gold around Wanaka and Arrowtown, settled weather for helicopters, and thinner trails. December to February brings summer and 10 p.m. light but also peak visitors. Winter, June to August, delivers snow landings and quiet fiords for couples who run cold-tolerant.
Do we need permits to elope in New Zealand?
Couples generally do not, but commercial photography and heli landings on conservation land require Department of Conservation concessions. We work with concession-holding operators and carry the right approvals for locations like Fiordland, so the permitting is our problem, not yours.
Is Roys Peak too hard to hike in a wedding dress?
It is a serious walk: 1,200 metres of climbing, 5 to 6 hours return, no shade. Plenty of couples hike it in activewear and change at the top, which we choreograph. If that sounds miserable rather than fun, the helicopter reaches the same ridgeline in ten minutes and nobody can tell from the photographs.
