Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare
The 214-metre wall of rock that anchors every Ireland shortlist. The visitor centre section is packed by mid-morning, so we walk the coastal path toward Hag's Head or shoot from the Doolin end at sunset, when the cliffs light up gold and the coaches are gone.
Ring of Kerry & the Skellig Coast
A 179-kilometre loop of mountains, beaches and island views, with the jagged silhouette of Skellig Michael offshore. We skip the coach route's schedule and work the quiet ends: Kerry Cliffs, Derrynane's dunes and the Gap of Dunloe.
Connemara, Co. Galway
Bog, lake and the grey quartzite domes of the Twelve Bens. Diamond Hill gives a summit panorama in a 90-minute round trip, and the roadside lakes near Kylemore photograph like the Highlands with softer edges.
Dingle Peninsula
Slea Head's cliff road, the beehive huts, and Coumeenoole beach in a natural rock amphitheatre. Dingle town supplies the celebration afterwards: chowder, trad music and a pub with your names on it.
Slieve League, Co. Donegal
Sea cliffs nearly three times the height of Moher with a tenth of the visitors. The far northwest takes commitment to reach, which is exactly why couples who make the drive get it almost to themselves.
Killarney National Park
Lakes, red deer, oak woods and Ladies View on the road to Moll's Gap. A reliable sheltered option when the Atlantic coast is being violent, and ten minutes from hotels, florists and dinner.

The paperwork
Getting legally married in Ireland
Legal marriage in Ireland requires three months' written notice to the state. Both of you must attend a civil registration office in person for a notification appointment, pay a non-refundable fee of 200 euro, and receive a Marriage Registration Form, the licence that any registered solemniser needs before marrying you. Couples living abroad can apply for permission to open the notification by post, but you still attend in person before the wedding to sign final declarations, and appointment slots in popular districts book out months ahead. Two witnesses over 18 are required. It is all workable, but it demands planning around that three-month clock.
Because of that timeline, most of our Ireland couples take the symbolic route: sign the legal paperwork at home in a five-minute courthouse visit, then hold the full ceremony on an Irish clifftop with an experienced celebrant, vows, rings and a handfasting if you want the old ritual. Nothing about the day looks or feels less real, and it frees your date from the registrar's calendar. We talk both routes through honestly and connect you with celebrants either way.

Yes. Small ceremonies on the public coastal path are fine, and the Moher experience operates a paid viewpoint if you want the classic platform. We prefer sunset from the Doolin side or the quieter path toward Hag's Head, after the day-trip coaches leave and the light goes gold.
When is the best time of year to elope in Ireland?
May, June and September. You get 16 to 17 hours of daylight in early summer, wildflowers, and far fewer coaches than July and August. September trades a little daylight for heather, soft light and empty roads. Winter works for couples who embrace storm drama and short, flexible days.
